I have photographed in many schools, colleges and universities. The best results come from keeping a low profile and capturing honest and real interactions between people. This, however, can take time to happen naturally, so I’ve also developed an approach of setting up basic scenes and then letting the students reactions develop naturally within a loosely defined set of directions. Generally the younger the student the less influence you have but sometimes that is when the magic really happens.
